At the Siruela Communal Farm, infiltration lines (swales) have been implemented, consisting of 200 linear metres of small ditches following the contours of the land, with the aim of promoting the retention and infiltration of runoff water on the slopes of the farm.
To ensure their effectiveness, the ditches were filled with local pruning debris and branches, preventing soil exposure and erosion. A layer of topsoil was placed on top of these structures and native herbaceous species were planted, increasing the soil’s water collection and storage capacity and contributing to the recovery of vegetation on degraded slopes.
With this action, the Siruela Communal Farm reinforces sustainable water management, improves soil fertility and enhances the resilience of the pasture ecosystem to drought and runoff, combining ecological conservation and agricultural productivity.
