Valcorchero boosts its biodiversity with the installation of an insect hotel as part of the LIFE Scrubsnet project

Valcorchero (Cáceres) has been the setting for a new initiative to promote biodiversity with the installation of an ‘insect hotel’, an initiative forming part of the activities of the European LIFE Scrubsnet project.

The installation, located in this iconic natural setting, aims to encourage the presence of beneficial insects, which are essential for the ecological balance of the dehesa ecosystems. This action forms part of the measures promoted by the project, which focus on the regeneration and improvement of agroforestry habitats through sustainable scrubland management.

The insect hotel acts as a refuge for various pollinator and auxiliary species, helping to improve soil health and strengthen food chains. This type of natural infrastructure also helps to combat pests in an ecological way, reducing the need for chemical interventions and promoting the resilience of the environment.

The Valcorchero site is one of the pilot farms selected by the project, where various experimental initiatives are being carried out to restore degraded habitats and promote biodiversity. These include the creation of scrub patches, the protection of natural regeneration, and other measures aimed at improving the ecological condition of the dehesas.

The LIFE Scrubsnet project, co-funded by the European Union, seeks precisely to demonstrate how the proper management of these areas can contribute to species conservation, carbon sequestration and the socio-economic improvement of rural areas.

With initiatives such as this, Valcorchero is establishing itself as a leading example in the application of innovative nature-based solutions, committing to a management model that combines environmental conservation and sustainable development.
