Last 21th of January 2025, the Italian partner of the LIFE Scrubsnet project, AGRIS, organized a technical round table entitled “Prevention and mitigation of risks that may negatively affect habitat 6310 in Sardegna” in Macomer (Sardinia). At least 28 people attended the meeting, among them, public entities, farmers, association of farmers and researchers. During the meeting, AGRIS involved as speakers the regional agency “Laore and the Regional Department for Environmental Protection” (Assessorato Regionale per la difesa dell’Ambiente) in order to explain participants about the sources of incentives and existing funding for the protection of biodiversity and the environment of habitat 6310. They also gave, after the debate, a small space to their colleagues from Forestas (Regional Agency for Forests in Sardinia) to present their Res-alliance project (https://www.resalliance.eu/Horizon), as there are many connections with ours.
Farmers had also the opportunity to share their points of view about the challenges faced by their farms. There is a general problem regarding the impact of Phytophthora cinnamomi on the entire regional territory, together with negative impacts of dryness and the increasing risk of fires. During the participatory session, a set of solutions and policy instruments were proposed to mitigate pressures on the habitat 6310 in Sardinia region, with special focus on the management of the scrub areas and the need to reverse the abandonment of extensive livestock and agriculture activities in the region.
